Types of seaweed:

Foraging

  • Seek negative tide days. Go one hour before / after low tide
  • Look for rocky shore with cold water
  • Allowed to harvest 10 lbs every day of the year without license
  • Bring buddy, wear bright colors, bring change of clothes
  • Don’t harvest in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). None of the beaches in San Francisco fall under this category.

Supplies:

  • Gallon-size ziploc bags
  • Scissors
  • Water shoes / boots / sandals. For intertidal seaweed, like 다시마, you will get wet.
  • Layers!
  • Ice chest with ice
