Lots of camping in Stanislaw National Forest.
- Arnold Rim Trail. More than a dozen miles of pathways along forested creeks and ridgetop vistas with panoramic views.
- Calaveras Big Trees State Park
- Columbia State Historic Park. About an hour southwest of Big Trees. Living historic Gold Rush town. Largest collection of gold rush era brick buildings.
- Railtown 1897 State Historic Park. About an hour southwest of Big Trees. Preserved steam railroad artifacts. Can ride steam locomotive through Sierra foothills.
- Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park. 12 miles east of Jackson. Largest collection of bedrock mortars in North America. Sacred to Miwok tribe.
