There's a great local market about 15 minutes from the retreat that carries Sonoma's best produce.

Bring slip on shoes to go in and out of the cottage. They have a no-shoe policy in the cottage, as the madrone wood floors are easily marred.

CHECK IN TIME IS 3pm. Check out time is 11:30 am.

The cottage is in mountainous terrain, has abundant wildlife. The trails can be dangerous as some are on steep cliff sides. There are unusual structures on the property including a suspension bridge and a small dwelling on the edge of the cliff called the star house.

No smoking.

Directions

Here are directions to the cottage from San Francisco and Oakland airports. There are two ways to get there, one is through the city of Santa Rosa and the other is through the town of Sonoma. Going through the town of Sonoma you go through the scenic valley of the moon.

From San Francisco or Oakland (By Santa Rosa):

  • Take Hwy 101 over the Golden Gate Bridge.
  • From Oakland go over the San Rafael Bridge to Hwy 101.
  • Stay on Hwy 101 through Marin County to Sonoma County and toward Santa Rosa.
  • Once in Santa Rosa, take the Hwy 12 exit going toward the town of Sonoma.
  • Take a left at the first stop light which is Farmer's Lane, go 5 stop lights until you come to Hwy12 (again),
  • Turn right on Hwy 12 and go till you come to Los Alamos Road (about 3.5 miles).
  • Take a left onto Los Alamos and go 3.2 miles, (Important to use your odometer as mountain roads are deceptive). The double yellow line ends at the 3.2 mark and there is a paved fork on the left that you turn onto, with our address 1557 and a lot of others on a wooden signpost. Go just 100 yards (or until you see 20 mailboxes on the right side) and across on the left you will see 3 unpaved driveways.
  • Take that middle driveway with the address posted there 1557. Drive up to the open gate – and go to the turnaround –As you pass through the metal gate onto the property you will see a stone staircase that leads to the cottage. Pass the cottage and drive up to the main house.

From San Francisco or Oakland (By Sonoma):

  • Take Hwy 101 over the Golden Gate Bridge.
  • From Oakland go over the San Rafael Bridge to Hwy 101.
  • Stay on Hwy 101 and take exit #460A on highway 37 east (toward Napa & Vallejo).
  • Go 7-8 miles and turn left on Highway 121 (by Inferion raceway).
  • Go 7-8 miles and follow the signs to the town of Sonoma.
  • You come into Sonoma on Broadway and it ends at the town square, turn left on E. Napa.
  • Go about 2 miles and turn right on Highway 12, Go 14-15 miles and turn right on Los Alamos Road.
  • Go 3.2 miles, (Very Important to use your odometer as mountain roads are deceptive). The double yellow line ends at the 3.2 mark and there is a paved fork on the left that you turn onto, with our address 1557 and a lot of others on a wooden signpost. Go just 100 yards (or until you see 20 mailboxes on the right) and on the left you will see 3 unpaved driveways.

The following are directions via Whole Foods Market (Santa Rosa only):

  • In Santa Rosa exit Hwy 101 and take Hwy 12 exit going toward the town of Sonoma. Pass Farmers Lane (first light) - go straight and you will then be on Hoen Avenue. Continue on Hoen for several blocks until you reach Yulupa.
  • Take a left on Yulupa and go 3 blocks until you see Whole Foods Market on the left, there is a blockbuster video store next to it.
  • When you leave the market ~ take a left onto Yulupa and go straight to Montgomery Drive.
  • Take a right on Montgomery and go straight. Stay in the far right hand lane, and when Montgomery veers to the left (turning into Mission Street), stay in the right hand lane where Montgomery turns into Melita Drive.
  • Take Melita for several miles, and once you pass Spring Lake & Annadel Park, you will soon see Los Alamos Road on the left hand side, take a left on Los Alamos Road and go a couple of hundred yards to the traffic signal (highway 12)
  • Cross highway 12 and stay on Los Alamos and go 3.2 miles, some cars it's 3.3 miles on the odometer. (Important to use your odometer ~ mountain roads are deceptive). The double yellow line ends at the 3.2 mile and there is a paved fork on the left that you turn onto, with our address 1557 on a signpost.
  • Go just 100 yards (or until you see 20 mailboxes on the right side), and on the left you will see our unpaved driveway mark & our address.
  • Take that middle driveway. As you pass through the metal gate onto the property you will see a stone staircase that leads to the cottage. Pass the cottage and drive up to the main house.
