In New Mexico.

The mountain roads there (76 to 518) are beautiful but a lot slower. 285 to 64 is fast but isn't that interesting (a bunch of indian casinos along the way). However, the view of the Rio Grande Gorge from that road is breathtaking when you come over the pass. The earth just splits in half.

Food

I ate at Orlando's New Mexican Cafe on my Santa Fe (May 2011) trip.

Bavarian Ski Lodge (for dinner or a drink) at Taos Ski Valley (maybe 45 minutes from downtown):

Arroyo Seco, which is on the way to the ski resort, is a cute little place to check out if you're driving that way. It also has some interesting restaurants and shops. The Taos Cow has really good ice cream and good diner-style food.

To Do

Across the street from the Taos Cow in Arroyo Seco is an excellent pottery gallery that Andrew's friend, Rose, used to run the desk for. Good place for gifts.
