Seaweed. Pronounced "dashima." AKA kombu.

As a food, supposedly eliminates heavy metals and radiation ions from body.

Cooking

Classic thing to do is to make stock. Boil for 20 minutes with dried shiitake mushrooms and dried anchovies (멸치). If you want to make a vegan version, do without the anchovies. Grind the stock ingredients with soy sauce and rice vinegar, and you'll have a tasty paste you can add to rice and stir fries.

Can also add it to beans. Adds flavor and supposedly reduces gasiness.

Cleaning

  • 4-5 hours to sun dry
  • Don’t overlap them while drying
  • Releases slime as stress response. The longer you wait to process, the more it exudes.
  • When crisp and rigid, done drying
