Seaweed. Pronounced gim. Also known as nori and laver. Scientific name is Porphyra.

Cooking

  • Toast / bake / fry lightly. Once cooked, shatters easily for flakes or powder.
  • Use in smoothies
  • Laverbread

Cleaning

  • Lots of stuff hides in its folds (e.g. shrimp, isopods, sand), so requires 3-4 rinses to clean
  • Use salad spinner to reduce water
  • Sun dries within two hours
